Attack of the Snapchat clones. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2 2017 By Darrell Etherington

Some of Facebook's Snapchat clones are way more popular than the original, Tesla had a rough quarter and people for some reason continue to think meal kits are financially viable. It's The Daily Crunch for November 2, 2017.

1. Instagram Stories and WhatsApp both have twice the users of Snapchat for their Snapchat clones

Well, sorry about your luck, Snapchat: Both Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status, the respective clones of Snapchat's original Stories, have over 300 million daily active users, which is nearly double what Snapchat itself has. Brutal.

Facebook's ability to copy its biggest potential threat and also bury it will be studied in business schools for decades to come. Which is a little bit sad.

2. Tesla didn't have a great quarter

In a number of ways. But perhaps most notably in their ability to build and ship Model 3s, which is way, way behind their own original projections. The company says that it's actually just a minor delay in terms of its long-term goals, but investors aren't totally convinced.

3. Blue Apron competitor set to go public, too

Hey, I'm not an investor or an advisor on investments, but this one seems like a tough sell given that Blue Apron has been one of the worst IPOs this year. HelloFresh could fare better, I guess. Again, not my expertise.

4. Tesla might swap out vehicle computers to make its autonomous features smart enough to satisfy regulators

Tesla was very early in offering its customers the ability to purchase a path to full autonomy for their cars. Its vehicles from late last year onward have all the hardware they need to get to full self-driving, per the company. But that doesn't mean they have all they need to get to a place where they can satisfy regulators.

5. How Russia did its Facebook ad targeting

We're starting to get a lot more information about the misinformation campaigns run via Russian actors on Facebook and other social networks, thanks to the ongoing intelligence committee hearings. now we know how Russian state agents ran their FB ad campaigns, and how effective they were.

6. Don't trust celebs on ICOs, says the SEC

The SEC is warning influencers including celebrities and social media stars to take it easy on pitching ICOs using their platforms. They're all scams people so like, just accept it.

7. Didi Chuxing will build its own EV charging network in China

China's ride-sharing giant Didi Chuxing is going to build an electric car charging network, for its own cars as well as for the public, the company announced, using a new joint venture. The infrastructure issue is still one of the big puzzle pieces that needs to come together to make electric cars work at scale, so this is one answer in terms of where that infrastructure will come from.
