This new offering comes about a year after rival OpenAI released a product aimed at the same group. Read more 📺 Twitter TV: X wants to be known as a "video-first platform." Yesterday it took another step toward that goal, announcing that its X TV app is now in beta on platforms like Amazon Fire TV and Google TV. Would you download it? Read more ❌ Data protected: Ireland's Data Protection Commission announced today that it ended its court proceedings against X around its use of processing unconsenting users' data to train its AI model. This comes after X agreed to stop processing users' data last month. This update allows parents to link their account to a teen's and get notified about updates like a video upload or comment. They won't be able to see the content, though. Read more 🦽 Wheelchair tech: On Monday, Korea's Institute of Machinery and Materials showcased a robotic wheelchair that has flexible wheels meant to better glide over obstacles. While there is no info on potential commercialization, it's good to see people building real tech for people. Read more 📚 Courting college students: Tinder is heading back to school — college campuses, that is. The online dating app released a bunch of new features for Tinder U, its platform catered to college students, and offered these students a hefty discount on premium subscriptions, too. Read more 🤔 AI for humanity: The Cosmos Institute, a nonprofit, announced that it is launching a venture program and research institute meant to bring a philosophical approach to AI. The program will be housed at University of Oxford. Read more | | | 🏈 Dollars for DubClub: DubClub is a platform that connects amateur sports bettors with "cappers" that give them advice on getting an edge in betting. The company just raised $7.5 million to build out its team. Read more 💸 Sizable step up: Slauson & Co. raised $100 million for its second fund to back entrepreneurs building in consumer or SMB tech. The firm plans to double down on its mission of inclusivity in funding for its second fund. Read more 💰 AI-in-residence: Mayfield is launching "AI Garage," a $100 million initiative to support founders looking to build "AI teammate" companies. The firm imagines this program to be less like accelerators such as YC and more like a scaled-up entrepreneur-in-residency approach. Read more | | | 📚 Library loss: Back in 2020, the Internet Archive, a nonprofit, expanded its online book-lending program in the wake of libraries closing during the pandemic. Publishers took the nonprofit to court on allegations of violating copyright laws. The publishers won. Today, they won again.
