THE DAILY CRUNCH
TUESDAY, AUGUST 14 2018 By Anthony Ha

Ether prices are dropping, Azealia Banks has some juicy stories about Elon Musk and Facebook buys an interactive video startup. Here's your Daily Crunch for August 14, 2018.

1. Ethereum's falling price splits the crypto community

Crypto bloodbaths have become pretty common in 2018, but the fact that Ether has been on a downward spiral seems like a bigger deal.

TechCrunch has talked to founders and investors about just how big a deal — some of the more pessimistic industry watchers suggest that broader interest in cryptocurrency is waning.

2. Rapper Azealia Banks' claims to have the inside track on Elon Musk's Tesla take-private drama

Take everything here with enormous handfuls of salt — but if nothing else, it's incredibly entertaining.

3. Facebook buys Vidpresso's team and tech to make video interactive

The six-year-old Utah startup works with TV broadcasters and content publishers to make their online videos more interactive with on-screen social media polling and comments, graphics and live broadcasting.

4. LittleBits acquires kids educational community DIY Co

This is the New York-based educational hardware company's first acquisition.

5. Chinese Tesla rival Nio files to raise $1.8 billion in US IPO

Nio was started in 2014, initially as NextCar, by Bin Li, an entrepreneur who founded online automotive services platform Bitauto. The company is backed by Chinese internet giants Baidu and Tencent among others, and it has developed two vehicles so far: the EP9 supercar and ES8.

6. AR startup Ubiquity6 lands $27M Series B to build a more user-friendly augmented reality

Ubiquity6 is one of a handful of startups aiming to tackle the backlog of backend features currently missing from most AR experiences available today — like enabling users to create a cloud-based AR copy of the physical world.

7. What the rumors say about Google's upcoming Pixel 3

For starters, there's what looks to be a pretty sizable top notch.
