We try out the new Macbook Pro. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, JULY 16 2018 By Anthony Ha

We check out the new MacBook Pro, Roku announces its own wireless speakers and Uber adds new features for easier pickups. Here's your Daily Crunch for July 16.

1. Living with the new 15-inch MacBook Pro

Brian Heater says the upgrades on the higher end probably aren't essential for most consumers, but thankfully the price points for the lower-end 13-inch and 15-inch laptops remain the same. Plus, the refresh is an important affirmation of Apple's commitment to creative pros.

Also, I got to test out the new, quieter keyboards by banging on them as loudly as I could manage.

2. Roku unveils $200 wireless speakers made for Roku TV

Roku says these are speakers that deliver "really premium sound in a really compact package," and at an affordable price. They sync wirelessly with a Roku TV — and since the company controls both the video and audio experience, it can ensure that they're matched up perfectly.

3. Amazon Prime Day's best tech deals

Today's the day!

4. Wave Uber's new Spotlight or send canned chats to find your driver

Uber is aiming to perfect the art of the pick-up with three features designed to minimize cancellations: Guaranteed pickup windows, pre-written messages for riders and drivers, and Spotlight, which assigns each driver their own color — riders will get the color on their smartphone screen and can wave it to get noticed.

5. WeWork takes meat off the menu as part of environmental policy drive

Specifically, the coworking company says it will no long allow employees to expense meat, and it will no longer serve meat at company events.

6. Elon Musk tweets he'll "bet ya a signed dollar" that Thai cave rescuer is a "pedo"

Yes sir, Elon Musk is a cool guy who definitely deserves the adulation of the tech community.

7. It's Monday, where's your favorite podcast?

This week, we've got a new episode of Equity looking at the Uber-Lime deal. CTRL-T and Original Content will be back soon — I just need to finish editing the latest episode of OC!
