An internal Apple document confirms its keyboard reliability fix, Epic Games updates its Unreal engine and Comcast decides not to buy Fox. Here's your Daily Crunch for July 19, 2018.

1. Apple reportedly confirms keyboard reliability fix in internal document

An internal Apple document obtained by MacGénération and MacRumors confirms that the third generation butterfly keyboard tries to fix reliability issues by including a membrane underneath.

When Apple announced the new MacBook Pro lineup, it said the keyboard had been improved for quieter typing — and it is quieter. But in the document, Apple explains things a little differently: "The keyboard has a membrane under the keycaps to prevent debris from entering the butterfly mechanism."

2. Fortnite maker Epic Games beefs up its Unreal game engine in new update

After a wildly successful last few months thanks to Fortnite, Epic Games is delivering some substantial new updates to its Unreal game engine. New features include smoother compatibility on mobile and better support for Nintendo's Switch.

3. Comcast drops its pursuit of Fox, making way for Disney acquisition

Looks like Disney's won the brief-but-high-stakes bidding war. Comcast, meanwhile, says it's focusing on its offer to acquire British satellite broadcaster Sky.

4. New law forces Airbnb to open its books to New York authorities

The company has fought the law tooth and nail, but city authorities say it's common sense for the local government to be informed of the number and nature of residents using the service.

5. Reddit expands chat rooms to more subreddits

Reddit has been quietly working on a chat room feature for months now, and today it expands beyond its very limited closed beta.

6. Senate wants emergency alerts to go out through Netflix, Spotify, etc.

Senators from from Hawaii and South Dakota have just introduced a bill that would "explore" broadcasting alerts to "online streaming services, such as Netflix and Spotify."

7. Facebook can now sync your Instagram contacts to Messenger

Facebook is looking to expand your Messenger contact list with a little help from Instagram.
