THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, JUNE 25 2018 By Anthony Ha

AT&T buys AppNexus, Apple may be building water-resistant AirPods and scooter startups are picking up speed. Here's your Daily Crunch for June 25, 2018.

1. AT&T confirms it is buying ad platform AppNexus, reportedly for between $1.6B-$2B

You may not find the adtech business all that exciting, but AT&T feels differently — as do other mobile carriers, like our parent company Verizon.

AppNexus describes itself as the world's largest independent digital ad exchange. AT&T isn't revealing any of the financial terms, but last week's reports about acquisition discussions pegged the price at around $1.6 billion.

2. Apple reportedly working on next-gen, water-resistant AirPods

Not only would these AirPods do better with perspiration and rain, but one source told Bloomberg that Apple could also add biometric sensors, furthering the company's health tracking efforts.

3. Amazon will finish its nationwide rollout of Prime member discounts for Whole Foods this week

Starting on Wednesday, June 27, Amazon Prime members who shop at Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 stores can save on everything from baby back pork ribs, sockeye salmon and cherries to nuts, granola, mochi ice cream and lemonade.

4. Are scooter startups really worth billions?

Even when functioning "correctly", scooter rides can ooze a kind of brash entitlement.

5. Get your trusted midterm elections news from us, says Apple

Facebook, eat your heart out.

6. Tact $27M Series C attracts Amazon, Microsoft and Salesforce

It's not often you can get three cloud giants like Amazon, Microsoft and Salesforce to agree on much of anything, but today they were all part of an investment in Tact.ai, a startup that has been trying to use voice to change the way salespeople interact with CRM data.

7. Start your week with a TechCrunch podcast

Here's the content we've made for your ears: On Equity, there's a discussion of Twitter's efforts to battle harassment. On Original Content, we review the new Netflix romantic comedy "Set It Up". And the team at CTRL+T looks at whether gaming disorder is a real thing.
