New TechCrunch design! New funding for a new self-driving startup! New Fitbit smartwatches! Two of those things are exciting, one is not. It's the Daily Crunch for February 28, 2018. 1. There's a new TechCrunch (for some of you) TechCrunch has a new redesign ready to roll. Or nearly ready to roll at least. It's a big change, and so we're setting it live for a select bucket of users first. 10 percent of you will see the new site right now, selected at random. Don't worry if you don't have it yet, we're going to roll this out gradually to everyone else, too, incorporating feedback along the way. 2. Aurora raises $90 million for self-driving platform The self-driving startup from a key member of Google's self-driving car team is doing great, raising a big new round and adding two high-profile board members including Reid Hoffman and Mike Volpi. 3. Fitbit is planning another version of its smartwatch Fitbit is building another smartwatch to follow up its Ionic, even though that one basically did shit. But this one looks nicer? I guess? 4. Baidu's video business is doing a big U.S. IPO Baidu has a big streaming video business that it's spinning out with its own IPO, set for a U.S. launch. 5. Waymo has done 5 million miles driven on city streets Waymo has racked up over 5 million miles driven autonomously on public roads, and it's got a new 360-degree immersive experience to show you just what it's like to use an AV. 6. Facebook is looking to be LinkedIn but for everyone I guess Facebook wants to be a blue-collar job board. I still think FB is basically doing all the wrong things all the time these days. 7. Porsche is talking trash to Tesla Can Porsche steal Tesla's performance crown for EVs with its 2019 Mission E? Who knows, but they sure do talk some serious shit. |
