Google's new Pixels, plus plenty more. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4 2017 By Darrell Etherington

Google's Pixel event, Yahoo's bad billions and SoftBank's good billions. All that and more in The Daily Crunch for October 4, 2017.

1. It's Google's big hardware day!

As you're receiving this, the event is already started, so jump on over to this livestream to check it out. We'll also have all the news on TechCrunch as it happens, so you can follow along there.

We're expecting a new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, as well as new Home smart speaker hardware, and some potential surprises. In fact, I've heard that Google might drop a lifelogging wearable camera, of all things, so tune in to find out if that comes true.

2. Yahoo updates count of those affected by 2013 hack: Now 3 billion

Yahoo now says that all 3 billion of its users were affected by its 2013 security breach. Great news, especially now that Yahoo is a TechCrunch sister company because of the Verizon deal and its unification with AOL. Cool!

3. Uber board is moving forward on SoftBank investment

Uber's board has voted to move forward with a proposed SoftBank investment, and removed super voting rights from early shareholders, which also weakens Kalanick's hold on the board. All likely moves that set Uber up for an eventual public market debut.

4. Dyson's aiming to inspire range anxiety in EV rivals

Dyson wants to make an electric car, and it's sharing a few more details on what it hopes to achieve with this project. It wants to beat current offerings on range by a fairly large margin, and it wants to build the car from the ground-up on its own to make it happen.

5. Snap hasn't sold that many Spectacles

Snap's Spectacles sales aren't amazing: It has sold "over 150,000" per CEO Evan Spiegel, which is not very many at all, and seems to be a slowing number given the last time they disclosed the figure. I know mine are buried deep in a closet.

6. Instagram wants to turn everyone into pollsters

I'm never sure how to interact with Instagram Stories. It's awkward to send a message, IMO, so I usually just don't do anything in terms of active engagement. Instagram's new Polls stickers might fix that, though I still haven't actually responded to any.

7. Is this Tesla's electric truck?

This could be Tesla's all electric semi truck – it sure looks like the teaser image, though it's a spy shot and not a confirmed thing from the company. We'll find out at the official unveiling, which is coming up on October 26.
