Snap soars and Jeff Bezos gets moony. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
FRIDAY, MARCH 3 2017 By Darrell Etherington

It's Nintendo Switch release day! I'm leading with that because I'm continually refreshing shipment tracking status for my own so it's all I can think about. Besides the MANY AMAZING TECH STORIES contained within The Daily Crunch for March 3, 2017 of course.

1. Snap's first day as a public company ends with stock price high

Snap went public Thursday, putting the private pic sharing company on the NYSE. The day went well in terms of stock price – it closed up 44 percent by end of trading.

That's not great news for Snap, since it means they left money on the table and underpriced their shares. But it's better than the company tanking, at least in terms of what it says about investor confidence in its future potential. Plus, NBCUniversal put $500 million into the company, which means media co's have big hopes for the little darling.

2. Uber's app is about to become a content platform

I suspected this was coming ever since Uber revamped its app and put a feed on the main screen, but TC's Jon and Ingrid have uncovered that the ride-hailing company is definitely working on plans to turn its feed into a content marketplace. You have a captive audience, so why not? That's the magic of Facebook, after all – capitalizing on boredom in those idle hours users love and hate so well.

3. Bezos, Moon man

Amazon Jeff wants to go to the Moon – and offer regular service to the natural satellite. The Blue Origin founder confirmed to the Washington Post that he proposed a Moon trip for 2020 to NASA, with the ultimate aim of establishing a colony there. Somebody call Sam Rockwell and let him know his service is needed.

4. Google's definitely doing a Pixel 2

Google's Pixel is one of the best pieces of consumer tech from 2016, in my opinion. So it's great that the company has said explicitly via SVP of Hardware Rick Osterloh that it's definitely doing a gen 2 version in 2017. If the camera improves any more, it's hard to see how it won't top the industry.

5. Yelp introduces feature to highlight businesses with gender-neutral washrooms

Yelp's newest feature offers up a search filter for businesses that offer gender-neutral washrooms. It was a direct response to Trump's executive order rescinding protective guidance for transgender school students, which was an absolutely unnecessary, vindictive and petty bullshit move.

6. Facebook is your new travel agent

Facebook's new City Guides feature will help you find things to do in travel destinations, with recommendations sourced from friends and connections. It's a Foursquare challenger, and it's leveraging the company's huge network to do it.

7. A different kind of travel with Link

If you're like me and hoping to get a Nintendo Switch today or in the near future, then Devin's exploration of the new Zelda game available for that console is worth a longing look.
